No, i don't think so, because i went into the same identical problem
when i used "your" values (1024x768 - which resulted anyway in the
correct screen, 1440x900, as well).
A personal question: I was very happy when i succeeded to install, via
alternative installer, 12.10 onto the powerbo
I did that. Thanks a lot for your help, it's a miracle how that works.

I tried to install from the 14 febr live-cd (lubuntu ppc) to a hd. While
the mirror bug seems gone the installation didn't go through anyway. The
error msg was something like "Because of defect packages the
installation couldn't be finished".
Effectively, i can boot from that hd, but i get immedia
