My microphone volume is too low. I have set it in Kmixer to maximum, yet
when I record something and play it the level is too low. Also when I
use Skype I am barely heard. Did some research on this on the net and
found out that this issue was reported by other people as well.
Here is some additional information. In the last couple of hours I have
learned a little bit about systems logs. The missing codec information
mentioned above is exactly the following (from the kern.log file) :
hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC883, trying auto-probe from BIOS...

I have recently installed Kubuntu on my new PC. Originally, it booted
fine, with no strange sounds.
After that I was adjusting settings of my NVidia card. It did not go
well at the beginning, at one point I had to boot in recovery mode and
had to reconfigure xorg.conf
