Disabling IPv6 in Firefox via about:config didn't work for me either,
but carrying out the modifications to /etc/sysctl.conf described above

As far as I'm aware, there's no special firewall setup on my machine.
It's a dual boot machine - one disk with XP, the other with Lucid 10.04.
My installation of 10.04 is stock-standard - I haven't tweaked any
special settings, and neither did I do so when I had 8.04 LTS running
