Malige font packaged in ttf-kannada-fonts is broken. On fresh
installations, Kannada rendering is garbled because of the font.
Until a fixed version of the font is available, it might be a good idea
to drop it from the package.

I haven't looked into this issue much, but Kannada rendering seems to be
affected very much when ttf-freefont is installed. Telugu letters show
up between Kannada ones when ttf-freefont is installed.

no, the GNOME or GTK based applications were crashing with SCIM, but now
seem OK.
The problem is that the default installation still does not let people
to just install m17n with SCIM and start using it. Some of us can patch
them up, but normal users can't, even it is just 1 or 2 lines.

I talked about this on #ubuntu-bugs today. Several others were unable to
confirm. This seems to be an IM bug (probably SCIM?).
I have SCIM installed with GTK IM module.
