After uninstall apt autoremove removes keyring, but repo remains and

I manually added a repository to install a program (brave-browser).
After testing for a while I decided the browswer does not suit my needs
and did "sudo apt purge brave-browser", then "sudo apt autoremove".
Expected result: my system works as before, just without brave-brows
I tried upgrading LibreOffice to the latest and greatest (7.1.1) through
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa but the problem

printer / scanner is an HP Envy 5542.
Scanning at the defaults, text 150 dpi / image 300 dpi works 'out of the
box'.
Changing resolution to 600 / 1200 dpi sets the scanner working (shows

It turns out this is because of a broken USB stick. Working while using
Ubuntu Studio, breaking somewhere in the process of 'burning' Kubuntu.
With a new USB, installation works as expected.
