I have the same issue with the 435 branch on focal, not sure switching
to 440 is a good idea.

And apparently I solved the mystery. As a desperate attempt I changed
the refresh rate of the from 59.xx Hz to 60 Hz, and Xorg stopped
crashing coming out of suspend. I suggest giving it a try. Note: I do
not know why the screen was initially set to 59.xx Hz.

I have encountered similar issues when compiling the boost libraries
(1.42). Both gcc-4.4 and gcc-4.3 have similar behaviours, crashing
during the compilation of some stdlibc++ files:
