I can confirm this for hardy as well, my laptop is a Samsung P35 (more info in
attachment).
This bug occurs very rarely for me (once every 20 boots or so), but it seems to
be caused by heavy network traffic shortly after the activation of WLAN.
When it happens, it looks like this:

And another one: http://ctrlaltdel-online.com. I hope that's enough to
prove my point. :-)

Hardy Alpha 1 is still using acpi_fakekey, which still makes my display

Could we get any official info if/when this will be fixed?

I can confirm this workaround works, thanks for the link, MGMainz.
Either open gconf-editor and navigate to apps -> gnome-power-manager ->
backlight and set "enable" to false (uncheck) or paste the following into a

Public bug reported:

When logging in, my display starts flashing as soon as gnome-power-manager is
started. The hotkey events for brightness up and brightness down are polled a
dozen times per second.
This happens with both battery plugged and unplugged.
Uh yes, sorry, my bad. fglrx works perfectly now here.
I guess that is what you get when you try a hundred different things to
solve a problem. Thanks a bunch, Adam.
