I see the logic in that the lowest brightness would be 0. But in
reality, it seems a very impractical solution. Dragging the slider to 0
and then not being able to turn it up again (my hotkeys don't work --
kernel related issue.) I would propose that the lowest setting indeed

confirm that it has nothing to do with closing/opening the laptop lid.
When my battery is fully charged, the icon displays its most discharged
state, but the indicator itself displays the correct battery time left.

Sorry, I'm still quite the newbie to the whole packaging business and
bzr, but I think I got it right with this attachment. This is a
replacement for the patch in the last comment, and should be how it's
supposed to look and I intended it to.

so I patched the code with it. I'm no Python expert, but I tested it
successfully and it should make it a little less work to implement -
should this bug be accepted, naturally.

No, pardon me if I was unclear. What I mean is that the current
behaviour seems to be that if I check for updates and there are none,
the Update manager will read "Your system is up to date. The package
information was updated less than one hour ago."

For the sake of clarification for the user, when the Update manager has
just updated the package information, I propose that it should read
"Your system is up to date. The package information was just updated."
This is just a papercut bug,
I should add that for this behaviour perhaps even about a 40-50 second
estimated download time would be an appropriate time limit for generating a
notification?
Also, I'd be thankful if some kind admin could edit out the quoted mail text
from my last comment.

I'm guessing either this or the other bug has to be approved because
of the similar suggested behaviour. This behaviour I find could be
more helpful and less bothering.
Since installing a program is a very conscious act, being notified of
a completed install 10 seconds after you attempt to install
