Same problem here. The way to provoke this is the following:
Open up some application - f.e. Libreoffice Writer
Do a few mouse clicks - everythin ok
Then go to one of the hot corners
Then back to L-writer - mouse pointer is off.
In LO-writer minimize/maximize window and all is well again

I have not been able to reproduce the error by grub-update as Nico
suggested.
Have followed tuxfrank's advice and - indeed - error disappears after
installing cryptsetup

At entering a new formula or modifying an existing one throught the
function assistent, the whole computer freezes and does not react to any
keypresses nor mouse clicks. Machine has to be shutdown manually through
power button.
