You should always keep your system fully up to date. As for the fact
that some borders are black, it does not look like a bug to me. It does
not render Firefox unusable, and in fact I prefer it that way.

It's a bug in the code. The function force_widget_redraw in
src/animation.c is supposed to return a gboolean, but there is no return
statement in the body of the function.
It should probably be fixed in git soon, or you can try an earlier
revision.
