Reproducible on 14.04.1. Indeed it has to do with the max total display
size in 3d mode: "Requested size (2304, 800) exceeds 3D hardware limit

within a (2048, 2048) square."
Solution:
- Drag the extra monitor *under* the laptop
This is also confirmed at my system; the window resize area at the border is 1
pixel wide.
Ubuntu 12.04 with Gnome classic, no effects.
With the Unity mode, the borders are grabbable but the corner resize area is
way too small.

In ancient 2.x versions, in a directory I could just type the name of a subdir
and it would be selected. I could use backspace to correct my typing. If I hit
enter, the subdir is opened and I can type a new string to select the subdir's
contents.

I always switch to tty1 and kill X, but this is very bad.

Same here.
I see this problem for the first time. Yesterday I dist-upgraded from
Feisty to Hardy. The xorg.conf file attached was last edited in
February, and was thus untouched by the upgrade process.
Uptime is about 12 hours; I did not have this problem two hours ago.

Bug was opened on 2007-09-29. I'm having the same or a similar problem:
recently I found out the internal microphone in my macBook was working
(yay!), but today or yesterday it stopped working correctly (yes, i

because the server hosting the file in the first post will likely go

This problem not only occurs when plugging in/out usb-mouses. It also
happens when booting.
What works for me if the system is booted with numlock on:
1. choose System->Quit, then Suspend.
2. THEN close the laptop lid.
3. Open it after 5 seconds.
4. Numlock is on but goes off after 1 seconds.
I confirm this problem on my 2GHz white MacBook with Ubuntu Feisty.
Sometimes Ubuntu boots with this problem, sometimes it happens out of the blue
while working. Plugging in a usb-mouse, or removing it, sometimes creates or
solves the problem.
OS X doesn't have this problem.
