13.04 to 13.10 and then from 13.10 to trusty. Specifically, I see the

I have what seems to be the same issue, except that -- regardless of how
I start it -- emacs doesn't appear in the launcher. I've even tried
explicitly addding 'emacs23.desktop' to the gconf setting string, to no
effect. (This is on Ubuntu 12.04).
