The same problem here. Only with Lucid, though. Maverick works and so
does all the versions above. Furthermore, if the troubleshoot is used
and with the updated ALSA-drivers which are set up by the long CLI in
the troubleshoot, Lucid works with sound on this system aswell. Is there
another solution

The problem with ATI-proprietary drivers (which are recommended by
Ubuntu) and the overall desktop experience is beyond only being a
problem with Flash-videos. The desktop feels slow, unresponsive and the
initial drivers (non-proprietary) which are shipped with Ubuntu 11.10
