Oh, I managed to fix this. Here's what I've done:
1. Reboot
2. Switched to TTY, without login in in GNOME
3. sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall
4. Manual cleanup/purge of old packages.
The weird thing: This is already the second time this happened on this
computer. Previously I fixed it by booting f

I've successfully tested this on a fresh install of raring:
3.8.0-19.30: kern.log is flooded with messages as in this bug's description
3.8.0-32.47: no more flooding, palm is properly detected, bug seems fixed

In the most recent updates, this seems to have been implemented: only
one "Shut Down..." option in the menu and then the choice between
"Restart" and "Shutdown". Perfect!

Resolved! I've installed unity-scope-github which "silently" removed
unity-scope-home (because I've installed it via Software Center). After
reinstalling unity-scople-home (and uninstalling unity-scope-github)
everything is back in the Launcher!

'snmpd' is filling up my daemon.log file. So I want to just log, what's
really important.
Specifying customized logging (-L parameter for $SNMPDOPTS) in
/etc/default/snmpd does not work with log priorities with syslog
facilities. Example:
