I have the same problem. Dell E1705, resolution 1920x1200. Screen
looks exactly as demonstrated. This occurred after upgrade from 8.04 to
8.10. Base install was 7.10 which was later upgraded to 8.04, which did
not have this problem either.

This is an issue for me. The splash screen looks like a series of
diagonal stripes. It started happening right after a clean install of
8.04
