I can confirm that the following sequence of commands worked on both of
my 1804 LTS servers that were affected by this issue...
add-apt-repository ppa:phpmyadmin/ppa
apt-get clean
apt-get update
apt-get purge phpmyadmin
apt-get install phpmyadmin

This is still broken as of today.
Tried to upgrade a fully up-to-date 1604 LTS system to 1804 LTS using
"do-release-upgrade" and it failed with this exact issue.
Had to use the steps from comment #3 above to get it working...
mv /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.systemd1.service

Either that or just remove the Karmic package completely.

Ok thanks.
I've notice that Karmic has 0.2.8-1 which is effectively unusable
because it doesn't have the login url patch.
Can it, at the very least, be updated to the same version that is in
lucid, which is the same as karmic, but also has the patch.

I tried PIP, but didn't won't the other feed obscuring part of the main
feed.
My suggestion would be to have a command-line switch like --allow-
multiple that would bypass the check if used.

Following up on my previous comment, i have removed the patch from my
mythfrontend.sh file, but a command line switch to override this feature
for those like myself who need multiple processes would be a good idea.

I have a genuine need to run multiple frontend processes on my computer.
This worked find under 0.21, but since upgrading to 0.22 i cannot do
this. I suspect this bug fix is what is preventing me from doing it. Is
there a way to override this restriction?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500396
I don't beleive this is a duplicate.
Bug 500396 is about dependency issues during installation.
This bug is about code that doesnt work correctly, after MythTV is
upgraded to 0.22

mythtv-status failing
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: mythtv-status
The encoder state code for "Recording" in the xml feed has changed from
