Same problem - Radeon Mobility HD 3200. Also boots with
radeon.modeset=0, but then loads vesa driver (and doesn't allow, e.g.,
native screen resolution).

the grub-install fixes those messages for me (though my system is still
not initializing graphics properly! after the 12.10->13.04 upgrade).
