I am the original poster. I can't really help a lot. boot repair was not
the best fix but it got the system running. basically, the system never
worked properly and I eventually had to give up and I have been using an
older ubuntu system.

installation crashed. Install requested that I upload this bug report
and said it was uploading the data automatically. I will try the
install again without asking for the home drive to be encrypted. I'll
