Maybe this is a vanilla kernel issue. After building a vanilla Kernel
2.6.30-rc6 without any unused drivers and modules sound seems to work.
There were no problems on my jaunty machine unt
I've been testing the sound on that machine with other distributions and
kernels, after installing kernel 2.6.30-rc3 with KernelCheck on Ubuntu
8.04.2 this bug appears also in Hardy.

Installing a new system from Xubuntu 8.04.1 i386 CD seems to make some
problems, some packages are not installable, also their removing scripts
don't work properly in synaptic.
File /var/lib/dbus/machine-id was empty after installation.
Therefore, Avahi and DHCP didn't work.

Sorry. I did not found a ticket, it was reported in one of the Berkeley Boinc
Mailinglist.
I did not install an extra package, only boinc-client and boinc-manager. The
symlink to a file in /etc is set by the apt installer.
