As elmanytas said above, compiling from source and copying to
/usr/bin/praat solves the problem. Tested on Vivid 15.04

I have the same problem except on a 32-bit system. I have about 3GB of
swap which is about 3x larger than the amount of RAM I have. It only
started after upgrading to 11.10.

Upon upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10, Nautilus doesn't start automatically
and doesn't start manually. When started from terminal, it gives the
following output:
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"

After installing Gtk3 3.2.0, the error has changed from
"nautilus: symbol lookup error: nautilus: undefined symbol: gtk_overlay_new"
to

I found out how to fix this. Open a terminal and type
"sudo apt-get remove texlive"
"sudo apt-get remove tex-common"
"sudo apt-get install tex-common"
"sudo apt-get install texlive"
that's what worked for me so good luck to anyone with this problem.
