Same problem. ATI Mobility 9600. Rotating the screen fixes it though
even after shutdown/restart but the problem reappears after suspend.
There is also a problem with the bottom half of windows not drawing
properly until I click the title bar. I would provide more info if it
helps.

Same problem with lucid and Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME.
Hotkeys work but there is no software control over panel brightness. The
panel wont dim when disconnected from AC power but remember this working
fine with Moblin.

Sorry the package was called ubuntu-laptop-mode. Installing this removed
laptop-mode-tools and something else (can't remember) and ever since I
have had no problems resuming from standby.

Maybe a coincidence but I installed package laptop-mode last night for
some other reason and now suspend works flawlessly!

I agree, the positioning of the majority of notifications looks wrong,
unless I just happen to be adjusting the volume at the same time - which
is unlikely. It's probably a lot of work but if they can ever be made to
