I decided to do a full upgrade to the 16.04 Beta for one of these
Chromebooks, since the intention is to eventually run the LTS on these
machines.. The touchpad works for now.

I just realised my last message can be misinterpreted. I mean the latest
upstream kernel fixes the issue. Not the latest updated kernel at time
of writing in 15.10.

Upon successful installation of Ubuntu 15.10, I ran the usual updates
and after restarting, the touchpad stopped working.
I booted into kernel version 4.2.0-16 instead of the updated kernel
4.2.0-34, and the touchpad that had stopped working functioned as usual
once more. Cha
