Public bug reported:
I was attempting to install Ubuntu 18.04 on a Kingston SDD partition
that previously had 16.04 installed. I did not format the partition, I
just set it to the file system root. All user directories are symlinked
to another drive. Other than that, I can't think of anything

Title:
This happened for me on a regular kernel upgrade (to 3.13.0-16-generic
on 14.04). After upgrading, the users could not start their desktop
session, they would be immediately kicked back to the login screen.
Apt-get could not purge the existing fglrx installation, and dpkg could

I had the same problem with a Dell M6700. The Compiz fix worked for me.
It is interesting that I had no problems when connecting to an ASUS
monitor at home. When I brought the laptop to my work desk, and
connected to a Hyundai monitor (using the same HDMI to DVI cable), the
problem would occur.

I have just installed 14.04 today. I attempted to install the AMD
drivers from their site (stable verison.) These appeared to install, but
there were issues, so i removed them and attempted to install the fglrx-

I saw this same error when updating an AMD64 laptop running 14.04. I
left the room after starting the update, and the computer had turned the
screen off and locked due to inactivity. When I came back and unlocked
the computer, the system error dialog had popped up. I am re-running the

I am having similar issues with networking, and sometimes the sound
card, and the video drivers. I also noticed that the time for this
computer to boot, log-out, and log in is significantly (5-10 times)
longer than it was when I was running 13.04. At first I had upgraded

I had the same problem. I ended up doing

I recently upgraded our media center's OS to ubuntu 12.10 and installed
the ubuntu-gnome-desktop package. Since then, the desktop has shown an
odd behaviour problem: When I try to use the mouse to click on any items
in the bottom portion of the screen, nothing happens. This af

I found a solution here http://askubuntu.com/questions/107583/remove-
duplicate-second-unity-launcher-on-dual-screen. I turned off sticky
edges and set the launcher to just one screen. It could be that the
setting was changed.

I have the same problem. The biggest down side to this is that it causes
the mouse to stick when I scroll past the edge of the one screen. This
problem was not there until my most recent update of 12.04. I have the
NVidia Nview and a GT8800 card.
