I upgraded a VMware virtual machine from Ubuntu 20.04.1 to 20.10, using the
release upgrade GUI from the Software Updater. The upgrade itself worked fine.
But during the upgrade, the upgrade tool claimed it was "Upgrading Ubuntu to
version 20.04" instead of to 20.10.

Since this was a virtual machine (VMware Player running on a laptop),
not real hardware, I'm skeptical that memtest would report anything
useful (or at least, that it would realistically reproduce the previous
events.) If there were actual hardware problems, most likely they'd be
bad blocks on the
