After logging in, the screen became a mess (see attached image).
This clearly happens at random, because I restarted lightdm and logged back in
normally.
I am sure this problem is caused by nouveau (I don't know exactly which
package). I got this with oneiric too.

I didn't change anything in software-sources and when I closed the window this
bug hit me.
That was when opening it from update-manager after installing updates.

When using the program Hugin to stitch photos together, X/nouveau/linux
crashed. It crashed when it was loading the preview of the photos (which uses
3D?). I used Unity.
I got a backtrace (like on a tty), but the mouse still moved. Keyboard didn't
work anymore but I could S
Note: I first used Nvidia but found it buggy (redraw glitches, font in
tty too big etc.). Then I switched to nouveau and that caused freezes.
Then back to Nvidia and again to nouveau (by removing the nvidia-
current-updates package). The propriteary drives don't crash for me. I

My mouse doesn't currently work, so I'm left with the keyboard at the

This is a quick fix too. Add a file somewhere in your $PATH (for example, ~/bin
and add ~/bin to your $PATH variable). call it xdg-open:

exo-open "$1"
Make it executable with chmod +x bin/xdg-open
Log out and log in again
This works for gnome-do.

Yes, it crashed when reporting a crash. But I think that crash is caused
by the previous crash. By me dpkg failed to install the gstreamer
update, and, I think, that caused the crash in aptd. So, yes, there
crashes something while the first crash is being reported.

path (and not much more, I don't know the precise error right now).

happened. Then this bug appeared. There were errors while mounting
devices (dropped to root shell, fixed fstab, Ctrl+D to retry, and the
login window appeared). Other times when Compiz restarted I didn't have

I have the same issue (Linux kernel 2.6.31-17-generic x86_64 GNU/Linux)
when mounting two NTFS partitions (Windows XP). When I uncomment the two
lines in /etc/fstab, there is no error. Then only the /, swap and cdrom
are mounted.
