Upstream it's working ok. If you're running in debug mode, try to look
for this line in output:
StripWidget::save: > Saving Stuff...
This is the call that saves the favourites.

Actualy the application control widget already works to switch between
applications. Just clicking that will trigger the "Show Windows" effect,
so the user can switch between applications. The user must have
composite enabled.
