Running apt-get as above (apt-get remove) will cause the packages to be
removed but their configuration files, if any, will remain intact on the
system. For a complete removal of the package, run:
# apt-get --purge remove

Have you tried the add/remove programs application? Were you able to
remove the program this way? Or does Ubuntu still send error messages?
Just wondering if it is possible to do this way.
