Binary package hint: language-pack-gnome-de-base
In Ubuntu 9.10 the German translation of Gnumeric is missing. Copying
the gnumeric.mo file from the jaunty package solved the problem for me.
Looking at the filelist http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/all/language-
pack-gnome-de
