I have similar problems. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.
Blueman doesn't work either, and freeze the computer(AAO 725 on Ubuntu 14.04).
Reboot is the only way using "Ctrl+Alt+PrintScreen+b".

I find this workaround:
cb@cb-AO725:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart
[sudo] password for cb:
* Stopping bluetooth[ OK ]
* Starting bluetooth[ OK ]
cb@cb-AO725:~$ pulseaudio -k
cb@cb-AO
I can confirm this bug in a fresh install of 10.04 final with all
updates.
