I'm also affected by this bug.
It only presents itself when using NVidia binary driver with multiple
monitors using the "Separate X Screen" option. If only one monitor
active or multiple in "TwinView" mode it doesn't happen.

I was able to boot into root prompt using recovery mode and start X from
there. 3D acceleration in the guest is reported as enabled and glxinfo
reports another driver different form Mesa software (glxinfo output
attached).
Once there i try to execute unity and get the following output:
