I also hit the same error. After some investigation I found out what the
problem was. It looks like redis is configured to bind to localhost over
both ipv6 and ipv4.
On my system I had disabled ipv6 via grub "ipv6.disable=1" therefore the
configuration was invalid and redis did not startup.
