I for one also get a prompr to send an error report about
apportcheckresume on every boot after the batteries ran out or if the
laptop is intentionally or accidentally suspended/resumed.

I had to reinstall Win7 and Ubuntu 12.10 just to update the BIOS to

allow to change the brightness either, OSD indicator appears but no
change in brightness occur.

No, the resolution was not correct, actually the TV was not even detecting
input via HDMI initially.

Did a 'unity --reset' because when I logged on, I just got a blank
screen with a mouse cursor.
This is using nouveau on fully updated Precise.
Below find the console output in case it helps.
