By relying on a saved search this invalidates the purpose of having a filter in the first place. It means that you would have to create a new search to view any event without showing all that events raw photos too. What you have suggested is a work-around that does not achieve the desired effect

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: shotwell Filtering which photos are visible using the three type icons allows you to turn 'photos', 'videos' and 'RAW photos' on or off. However, the 'photos' filter includes RAW photos (.NEF) meaning there is no way to view non-raw photos only Problem
