linux > 6.11 (now 6.12.0-15.15) and nvidia 560.35.03-0ubuntu7.

That is subtly the same problem. Some/most machines will default to the
native screen resolution even with software rendering, so you may not
notice the problem in that case. But the common issue is that it's still
