Yes, sorry for reporting a bug that's already fixed in Debian, have to
admit that I'm not quite sure how fixes from Debian propagate to Ubuntu.
I just thought I'd report it since it's really critical for the package.

Installed and removed unetbootin. Then apt-get autoremove failed to remove

I've noticed a strange behavior w/r/t the high CPU load.
With wifi enabled, ksoftirqd will use 100% CPU even if I am not
connected to a network. However, if I create an ad-hoc network,
ksoftirqd will stop. Disconnect the ad-hoc network and it stays that
way, no CPU load, UNTIL connecting to a wifi
the alsa-info for the comment 27 could be found as the attachment
alsa-info-201307-14019-for-comment27.txt
The sound is buzzing noise when dumping alsa-info.

Further experimentation resulted in a workaround.
I switched from GDM to LIGHTDM
Configured lightdm the same as for Ubuntu 12.04
XDMCP works as documented.
I can now login to the server from any thin client terminal.
