I wanted to install a fresh new ubuntu and try your advices, but it appears
that all is supported out-of-the-box on the very last ubuntu 14.10 ! Backlight
works well :)

Don't know what happened recently in EDS backend, but all I find now is
that I cannot run the Alarm unit tests twice consecutively so I get the
same results. One run produces 4 failures, then depending on how soon I
run the next I get 1-4 failures... And between these the sound update
fails once...

Verified that I could list locales after upgrading from 0.9.6-1build1 to
1.3+dfsg.1-2ubuntu1 then 1.3+dfsg.1-2ubuntu2
I also verified it was fixed after upgrading from 0.9.6-1build1 directly
to 1.3+dfsg.1-2ubuntu2
