also happens when changing modes through xrandr so not really related to
waking from S3, just turning off/on the display.

Actually I think the /Dev/mapper/ was the fake hard drive; I've read somewhere
that this system has two 128 GB ssd drives.
At the end of the day, I managed to remove the /Dev/mapper/ thing. I had to
restart the system afterwards, then I was able to install it on Dev/SDA and
Dev/SDB.

I was able to install Acrobat on Xubuntu 14.04 Daily 64-bit by
downloading and installing 'AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i486linux_enu.bin' from
Adobe, and also installing 'libgtk2.0-0:i386' to fix
'/opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread: error while loading
shared libraries: libgdk_pixbuf_xlib-2.0.so.

That's not how it works. You can't just install the nvidia driver
directly on an Optimus/hybrid GPU system, or it will mess up the intel

or that the problems even relate (different computer, different GPU,

I have similar issues with Ubuntu 13.04 on Lenovo ThinkPad E540.
The driver from GitHub works, but after some time the connection just dropps
and I have to reboot. After rebooting the connection is ok until next drop.
