for a UI not even considered for release just yet. This update to
Gwibber should have been held until at least post-raring. Messed up a
perfectly fine application.

I was able to reproduce that stack trace from Xorg log and intel driver
is not an issue here at all.
I found out that the cause of this is the fast spinning mouse wheel. I
have a mouse with a wheel which can be scrolled like in 'free roam'

This looks like a dupe of bug 1033302. Not caught by the retracer,
perhaps, because this core dump is from a 64-bit machine, and that one
from a 32?

Yes, the UI for this is missing in the new app. There is a workaround
though, if you want to turn off notifications you can run this command
in the terminal:
gsettings set com.canonical.friends notifications none
