Tested on an existing quantal system. Before, on the previous compiz, I
had no window decorations in Gnome Classic. Using the new version in
quantal-proposed the problem is fixed - I have a working Gnome Classic
desktop. The default profile is migrated correctly with the default
plugin list - works
This is fixed in compiz 1:0.9.8.4-0ubuntu3. Tested here fine.

Okay, this kernel also works.

Worth noting, if I boot from a working kernel to the broken one, the first boot
seem to go smooth.
If I reboot from the broken kernel into the broken kernel lightdm doesn't show
up.
I hope my observations are somehow helpful.

(should migrate there soon from unapproved to approved). Look for unity

Hi, I have to say first that I'm new to linux and ubuntu especially (had
debian for a while). I'm running the same problem(Unable to handle
kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0020) with Wacom Wireless Pen
Tablet model: CTE-630BT. My OS crashes immidiedly when I connect the
tablet via Bluetooth.
Exactly same happens to me. Sometimes the lightdm able to load properly,
but 90% persent of boots it goes black terminal screen weth mouse
cursor. In roder to resolve this I going to terminal (alt+f1) and 'sudo
restart lightdm'. Only then the login screen apears.
I've Dell XPS 14 Ultrabook (l421x)
@Daniel: maybe try with thumper, Joey is telling that he has the same
issue reliably in one of his box.

1. Open the gnome preference "keyboard layout" pane
2. Move the layout order, if you have more than one
3. Delete all layouts except the default one (mine was a US layout)
