As a matter of practicality, given this and other problematic bugs w/ EC2 on
the stock Maverick and Lucid kernels (there are several that range from
annoying to flat-out unreliable or un-(re)-bootable), I had been running my
Maverick-based instances with the Karmic kernels pretty successfully fo
I used to suffer from a similar problem. Mine was related to the jack daemon.
I ran alsamixer (from terminal) changed all values to 0, plugged AUX jack, then
rebooted.
After start up I changed them all back to original values, then rebooted. While
rebooting I unplugged jack,. Now sound works.
I've been watching this thread as well as #836865, with interest because
I have an E420 with the same issue. I finally just did the recommended
steps to blacklist the acer_wmi and forgot about it.
But I dual-boot this machine and a Lenovo update prompted me to update
the BIOS. While reading the

can now reproduce both on lucid and on oneiric, using the same headset.
