I don't think this is a couchdb problem - after all, several packages failed to install independently. All of them seem to have problems accessing some files on /etc, though. Can you confirm that it's mounted properly, accessible, ...? E.g., can you open/read the file /etc/texmf/hyphen.d/00tex.cnf?
