had a similar problem on a lg p1 laptop (ubuntu 8.04), and followed the
advices (copied the dsdt.aml,sudo update-initramfs -u ,changed
menu.lst). now I cannot even boot. it is stuck saying "starting up"
I tried to undo the changes gradualy (removed the changes from menu.lst
-> no changes, rem
If you move the xorg.conf file to something like xorg.conf.backup so that no
xorg.conf file exists, then restart X, that is the same as not having an
xorg.conf file.
sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup
then restart X.
You can also try reconfiguring X with
sudo dpkg-reconfigure

Hi, unfortunately before the reply I had already booted into recovery
mode and tried the fix xorg. I now have a higher resultion but still no
Nvidia driver. This is the latest xorg.conf, I will also enclose the
backup which I assume is the one prior to me running the recovery mode.

It seems to be another issue with the Flash 10beta2 plugin. Disabling
that fixes the problem. But the weird part is that adblock plus doesn't
even show any flash content on the PayPal home page! That Flash plugin
is causing more problems than its worth :( If only Flash and PulseAudio
could play nic

I had it running in a script I had. The script was supposed to check if
my external monitor (21") was plugged into my laptop (15.4") and change
the resolutions if it was plugged/unplugged.

My patch for python-dns failed to propagate errors on up if they were'n't
socket in use errors. Fix attached for Dapper/Feisty/Gutsy/Hardy. Intrepid
already fixed. Sorry.

The BIOS version available on the mfgr's website is actually older than
what mine came with. Well I should say, at least a higher number. I've
emailed Acer about this a couple times... they tell me there are no
updates to my installed version. It must not be a released version.

Looks like I missed an upstream commit that affects a certain class of
CPUs, e.g., those missing the RDTSC instruction. Please try the set of
kernel packages at http://ppa.launchpad.net/timg-tpi/ubuntu.
Alternatively, you can wait a couple of days and it will sort itself out
