This early stage of Hardy looks like a good time to do package renames
in Ubuntu. I agree with the idea of doing it initially in Debian, but I
want to do it at a time when it won't cause trouble syncing into Ubuntu,

I noticed that there is no date on the bug page or any of the comments.
The actual date/time of the comments would help people to know how long
ago something was said.
I have upgraded to Gutsy and the lockups still occur often (more than
50% of the time) when rebooting or when starting up after a shutdown.
The problem never occurs when waking from hibernation.

On reboot it did the bios thing and then there was a one line error across the

I didn't catch all of it but it had:

I'm not sure it was 'sysfs', but it was something li

Yes, problem is still very annoying. The situation has gotten worse as
now even xrandr stopped functioning when returning from sleep.

Also happens with me, on amd64. Trying to connect to a network will
often just crash the applet. A non-broadcasting, WPA2-secured network,
if that matters. Only way I've found to fix it is with a total reboot.
Leann: Thanks for tackling this problem. See my comments below,
please.

Well, I just tried to test this, but I couldn't, as my laptop does not
resume from sleep when using the 2.6.24-1-generic kernel. :(
I suspect it might be related to the video driver: there isn't a
restricted-modules package that I could see for that kernel yet, so I
had to use the open source nvid
