The tale is slightly convoluted. After doing an "apt upgrade" yesterday,
xsane and simple-scan started failing: scanner detected, but could not

both battery and supply in power manager. It works until I plug an
external monitor (DisplayPort), disconnect, then it suspends when

No changes other than the normal updates.

After creating a new user I was unable to login to her id from lightdm.
I could login on a text console and then run startx.
I think the problem is that /var/lib/AccountService/user/$user had
Xsession=ubuntu instead of xfce. I do not have
I deleted lightlocker and replaced it with xscreensaver. Since then I
have had no problems.
IIRC I already did a BIOS update, but I'm not absolutely sure. I know I
updated the BIOS on *a* computer, but was it this one?

I have narrowed down the problem.
1. I have deleted light-locker, updated all the packages and run ubuntu-
tweak/janitor.
The screen now always unblanks.
