I have upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic) and I am experiencing the same
problem. I don't have permission to change the bug status, should I
submit another bug report?

Public bug reported:
Sound worked before, but after plugging in headphones, sound does not work
through either headphones or internal speakers. Sound continues not to work
after unplugging headphones.
I tried:
1. killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.config/pulse/* ; rm -r ~/.pulse*
2. wait 10 seconds
