There is a very high noise level whenever the audio driver doesn't get
used for a while (after 5-10 seconds). The problem goes away whenever
any sound plays, even a completely silent video. There is a solution

After upgrading to 14.04 connection to the wireless was hardly possible.
After downgrading the wpasupplicant package to 1.0-3ubuntu2-mtrudel1
wireless connection was restored.
System is Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS on a HP Presario CQ71.
