I'm using VNC to access a desktop and experiencing just this issue. Using the "export DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS" allows me to get a firefox window. I can't open file load/save dialogs from that session though, so can't import/export certificates & websites with file upload pages that use the stan
