assumption that you don't need special privileges to open ICMP sockets
(as introduced in 2011 in the kernel). However, that only is true if you

10x with "fixed reproducible build (or crap)" patch - 10x fail
10x rebuild "as-is" - 10x fail
So I have a single magic build that works in [1] and all others fail :-/
