After finding evidence of this bug/issue/problem littered all over the
internet, I found a simple work around on reddit.
'Couldn't find a real fix, but this workaround worked for me on Xfce:
select Gdebi from the Applications menu, right click on it, choose Edit,
check "Run in terminal" and Save.'
I'm pretty sure I had this working on Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04 under xfce.
Now it's not, and no matter what I do this bug can't be worked-around
short of running it at the command line. The graphical password dialog
just won't pop up. I feel something must have changed recently in Ubuntu
to reintrodu
