After finding evidence of this bug/issue/problem littered all over the internet, I found a simple work around on reddit. 'Couldn't find a real fix, but this workaround worked for me on Xfce: select Gdebi from the Applications menu, right click on it, choose Edit, check "Run in terminal" and Save.'
