Public bug reported:
Hello, the apt documentation on controlling apt phasing is in
apt_preferences(5). However, putting the records into a file in
/etc/apt/preferences.d leads to an error:
$ rg -l APT::Machine-ID -g '*.xml'
apt_2.2.2ubuntu1/doc/apt_preferences.5.xml
apt_2.3.10/doc/apt_preference
then this must be a bug in the init-system-helpers package providing the

So far I've been arguing that apt should be more verbose about phasing,
and why these packages are held back. A friend has suggested that
instead apt should say *nothing*. I can see the appeal.
Thanks

The best we can do, is to take notAfter time of the signing certificate
and add that as the signingTime, which will then be used by the Sign
command as given.
This will ensure the signature is within valid time-series.
I don't see an easy openssl API to sign things without any signature

Dimitri thank you for the upload! I'd like to accept it soonish, but
since this SRU bug is missing the usual Test Case, Impact and Regression
Potential, could you fill that up before I accept it? I'd like to know
more about the fix that you performed, what it changes and what could go
wrong with it
setting PKCS7_NOATTR is not enough, as that only removes the smime
capabilities signed attribute, whilst signature timestamp remains.
